What happens at the course
Our experienced training team will guide you through the NSW Boat Licence and PWC Licence course. The course covers essential boating safety topics, with a short break included. At the end of the course, you’ll attempt the official licence test. The course is completed entirely within a classroom setting.
Once you pass with us, our trainers will immediately issue your signed qualification—just take it and your completed logbook (once you’ve done 3 trips) to Service NSW within 12 months to get your licence. No further testing will be needed.
When you will need a licence
To drive a powered vessel for recreational purposes on NSW waterways at a speed of 10 knots (18.5 km/h) or more, you need a general boat driving licence. To operate a PWC at any speed, you need the PWC licence – this is an upgrade on top of a NSW boat licence. Both can be completed at the same course.
Course training standards
All training is provided by Boating Licence Course’s official training team. All licence training is conducted in accordance with government standards. We do not contract your training out to any 3rd party providers.
